When I think about memorable moments in teaching thus far, some of my "aha's" come from understanding the fond relationship between writing and art. Additionally, using a mentor text as a way to communicate not only the concepts needing to cover, but other connections and experiences as well. The way a mentor text can add validity is far more profound than just sharing a story, making those connections is where students can gain the most understanding.
So for the project...I have included my lesson plan format as well as the Heart Worksheet. References that I used, included the February edition of School Arts, pages 40-41. The magazine applied this lesson beautifully to our classroom and the content needing to be taught.
